摘　　要：作为美国19世纪后浪漫主义时期的重要代表作家,霍桑致力于探索美国社会万恶之源的"原罪",并运用象征主义手法叙事塑造、刻画人物。花卉、字母,人名,场景等在作品中都是具有象征意义的符号。这些象征元素所构建的艺术意境,不仅丰富了读者的想象力,而且增强了作品的感染力和表现力。As one of the most important representatives in American literature of post-romanticism in the nineteen century,Hawthorne devoted himself to exploring the＂sin＂,the source of all kinds of social evils in America. He was skilled in narration and characterization by means of symbolism,among which flowers,letters,names and scenes etc.were the common symbolic elements. The artistic conception constructed by these elements not only enriches the readers＇ imagination,but also enhances the appeal and expressiveness of the work.
