The ecocritical reinterpretation of black literature is a key part of black literary ecocriticism. Native Son, black writer Richard Wright's best novel, characterized by the excellent representation of the inherent connection between urban environment and the tragic fate of its hero, Thomas Bigger, becomes the hot subject of black ecocriticism. With environmental justice in mind and from the perspective of black culture, one, when ecocrit-ically reinterpreting Native Son, ronmental racism and its ulterior could have a deeper understanding of envimotive resulting in the formation and deterioration of urban environment, black slum in particular, human alienation, the atrophy of black aesthetic experience, and the emergence of man-made urban jungle. Thus one could dig out its rich environmental meanings, and contribute to the construction of black environmental canon. Therefore, it may offer us vital inspiration to ecocritically re-interpret American ethnic litera- tures.
