An attempt was made to select the most suitable size of rootstock for green buddings raised in the root-trainer container. The same batch of rubber bare-rooted budded stumps with different stem sizes of rootstocks were grouped into 8 different treatments(stem size from 0.5 to 1.2 cm) and raised in root-trainer containers to compare the effects of the treatments on the growth of the first and second whorls of the leaves of the scions. The results showed that the scion grew weak with the lowest transplanting rate when the rootstock stem size was 0.5 cm but the best when the rootstock stem size was1.2 cm with the transplanting rate of more than 85% when the rootstock stem size was from 0.9 cm to 1.2 cm. This showed that the buddings in the root-trainer containers grew better with the increase of rootstock stem size in a given range of stem size, and that the rootstock stem size had no effect on the transplanting rate of the buddings when the rootstock stem size was bigger enough.
