Encouraging and supporting adult children to co-reside with their elderly parents is one of the measures dealing with the aging problem in China, but the influence of parent-child co-residence on child's health has not caused enough attention. Using panel data of CHARLS 2011 & 2013, we analyze the influence of parent-child co-residence on child's mental health through fixed-effect models. The result shows that co-residence with parents in poor health will aggravate the child's degree of depression, while coresidence with parents in fair or good health has no significant impact on child's mental health. Further analysis using sub-sample shows that co-residence with parents in poor health has significant effect on the mental health of women, but has no significant effect on men. The research is helpful for understanding the cost of home-based care for the aged comprehensively, dealing with the relation between family, market, and the government properly when coping with aging problem, and building scientific system of old-age care.
