学而优则仕?——清末留法学生兼进士潘敬的人生轨迹与时代变迁

摘　　要：广东南海人潘敬是宣统三年的法政科进士,曾在清末民初两度赴欧,一生经历清末、民国和中华人民共和国早期,留下众多颇有价值的论著和译作。他于1907年以优等成绩从京师大学堂师范馆毕业,并被遴选为官费赴法游学生之一,1910年底从法国毕业。归国后,他在中华民国临时政府和北洋政府时期主要供职于财政部,期间曾于1913到1915年间再度旅欧,协助调查外国财政。南京国民政府成立后,他离开财政部,在多家教育机构任教,同时亦曾在1935年末获得北宁铁路管理局的工作机会。至1946年他才返回佛山,在中华人民共和国成立后曾在地方上担任过市政协委员等职。审视潘敬的生平和文字,有助于更为多元地理解留欧学生的跨国视野和现实关怀,以及其在时代变革中的个人际遇与社会面貌。Pan Jing, a 1911 metropolitan graduate from Nanhai, Guangdong province, left for Europe twice at the end of the Qing dynasty and the beginning of the Republican period. He underwent the end of the Qing dynasty, Republican period and early New Era of China, and published a variety of valuable articles, books and translations. In 1907 he graduated from the Normal College, Imperial University of Peking with honours, and was selected as one of the officially funded graduates being sent to study in France. He completed his study in France at the end of 1910. After returning to China,he mainly worked at the Ministry of Finance of the Provisional Government of the Republic of China and the Northern Government. Within this period he was dispatched to Europe the second time for the purpose of assisting government investigation of foreign finances from 1913 to 1915. Following the establishment of the Nationalist Government, he left the Ministry of Finance, and devoted himself to teaching students at several different educational institutions. But he also obtained an opportunity to work at the Beining Railway Administration at the end of 1935. In 1946 he finally returned to Foshan. After the arrival of the New Era of China, he also held a few official positions such as the Chinese People＇s Political Consultative Conference member in this city. Pan Jing＇s life and writings reflect transnational visions and realistic concerns of Chinese students having studied in Europe, as well as their personal plight and social conditions.
