摘　　要：威廉·萨默赛特·毛姆出生成长的时代正值英国社会文化经历过山车式的震荡,从过度自信的维多利亚时代到内心空虚的爱德华七世时代,再到精神瓦解的乔治五世时代。毛姆在这急剧变化的年代里,对中国的书写既带有英国社会集体的想像,又有亲历中国游览后的现实的抒写。在其长篇小说《人生的枷锁》、《彩色的面纱》和《在中国屏风上》的创作中辉映着欧洲浪漫主义对东方风格和中国情调的企慕,也不可避免的浸染着帝国情怀与殖民扩张等非正义性情愫,值得我们研究与反思。W. S. Maugham grew up at a time of British society cultural experience,like a roller-coaster ride from overconfidence of the Victorian era to Edwardian empty inside,and then to mental collapse era of king George V. Maugham Chinese Writing was based on the level of collective imagination of British society and description of the reality after visiting China during the age of rapid change,which reflected in his creation of the Oriental style and the aspiration of Chinese sentiment of European romanticism. It is represented by the novel Of Human Bandage,The Painted Veil,and the essay On a Chinese Screen. In the process,Maugham embraced a sense of empire and faith,unrighteous colonial expansion,which is worthwhile researching and reflecting.
