摘  要:吉卜林的中篇小说《国王迷》从各方面反映出作者的早期思想,为其后来的创作方向埋下伏笔,对读者理解彼时的意识形态有着至关重要的作用。从后殖民主义视角出发,结合萨义德、G·斯皮瓦克及霍米·巴巴等后殖民批评理论,分析小说中所构筑的东西方形象,指出《国王迷》中两个流浪汉殖民扩张行为从正面宣扬了白人征服新世界的精神,与此同时对被殖民者卡菲利斯坦人的忽视和异化又将殖民行动合理化,从反面进一步巩固了殖民者的霸权话语权。通过西方的"优越文化"与东方"低等文化"的碰撞与交流,打破了东方的隔绝,形成一种文化混杂的状态。Rudyard Kipling' s novelette The Man Who Would Be King reflects the author's early idea yet foreshadows his later creation. And it is vital for readers to understand the ideology of the time.The paper intends to analyze the Eastern and Western images fabricated by the novella from a post-colonial perspective,drawing on the theory of Said,Spivak and Homi Bhabha,This paper holds that two men's colonization propagated the conquer spirits of the Whites being justified by the dissimilation of the colonized people and strengthening the hegemonic discourse. The collision between " superior Western culture" and " inferior Eastern culture " broke up the isolation of the latter,thus generating a state of cultural confounding.
