摘　　要：舒高第是我国近代著名的科技翻译家,也是中国留学先驱人物之一。然而他的留学经历一直模糊不清。通过调查美国大学的档案资料发现,舒高第最后毕业于哥伦比亚大学医学院,是我国近代史上第一位在美国获得医学博士学位的留学生,并有精良的医术。尽管回国后大部分时间不以医疗为主业,他仍运用医学知识为社会作出了积极的贡献,是中国近代医学史上不该忽略的人物。V.P. Suvoong was a famous scientific translator and a pioneer of students overseas returning to China during the modem history of China. However, we know very little about his stud- ying experience during his stay in the United States. Recently, through studying the archives from A- merican universities, we found that V. P. Suvoong graduated from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia college, he had a good medical skill, and he was the first person who earned the degree of Doctor of Medicine in the United States during the modem history of China. Though Suvoong did not make a living by medicine expertise for most of the time, he contributed to social development u- sing his medical knowledge. V.P. Suvoong is a figure which should not be ignored in the medical history of modem China.
