书写中国留洋科学家传记不应迷恋博士学位以邓叔群为例

摘　　要：邓叔群是一位在中国真菌学、植物病理学和林学领域里做出了开创性贡献的生物学家。他在1915年入读清华学校,1923年赴美国康奈尔大学农学院学习,1926年获得学士和硕士学位,1928年在没有完成博士论文、没有获得博士学位的情况下离开康奈尔大学,回国至私立岭南大学任职。已有的大量有关邓叔群的传记虽然提供了丰富而有价值的参考信息,但是对其求学生涯着墨相对较少,其中亦不无可商之处。在既有的研究基础上,通过挖掘新的中、英文资料,有助于厘清邓叔群求学经历中的若干史实。Deng Shuqun was a biologist who had made fundamental contributions to the fields of mycology, plant pathology and forestry in China. Admitted into the Tsinghua College in 1915, he moved to the College of Agriculture at Cornell University in 1923, and obtained his Bachelor＇s and Master＇s degrees in 1926. In 1928 he left Cornell University and returned to China to work in the Private Lingnan University under the circumstance of discontinuing the writing of his Ph.D dissertation and the pursuit of a doctoral degree. A number of existing biographies of Deng Shuqun contain rich and valuable sources of reference, but pay relatively less attention to his student career, and include some controversial narratives. On the basis of existing scholarship, newly explored Chinese and English sources enable scholars to ascertain some facts in Deng Shuqun＇s student life.
