摘 要:历来绝大多数学者将先秦时期吴越两国不行车战的原因归结为地理因素,认为这源于南方多水路,故无法实行车战,这固然有一定道理,却无法解释当吴越相继北上称霸后在战争中依然不实行车战等现象。单从地理角度解释似乎忽略了吴越特殊的社会结构,笔者以为两国无实行车战之贵族基础,而这又与其完成国家化的特殊进程息息相关,文章试图从这一角度给出有别于前人的解释。One of the most distinctive marks of the warfare between the states of Wu and Yue in Pre-Qin dynasty is that chariots were never used in the battlefields in these two kingdoms,which is significantly different from other inter-states battles during the Spring and Autumn period. Practically all the scholars have attributed this phenomenon to the geographic environments in South China: The crisscrossed rivers and lakes made it impossible and insufficient for the chariot warfare. This can be true to some extent. Yet it cannot account for the fact that the two states did not apply chariots in the war even when they successively went north to dominate the country. The geographical explanation seems to ignore the special social structure of Wu and Yue states. The paper holds that there is no aristocratic basis for chariot warfare in the two states,which is closely related to the particular development process of nationalization. The paper is a different interpretation from that of other predecessors.
