Objective To investigate the mean platelet volume(MPV) and its relation with the degree of pruritus in patients with atopic dermatitis(AD). Methods A total of 110 AD patients(AD group) and 50 healthy individuals receiving medical examination(normal control group) were enrolled. The AD patients were divided into mild pruritus group(n = 39),moderate pruritus group(n = 37)and severe pruritus group(n = 34) using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) score. The MPV was compared between the AD group and the normal control group, and was also compared among the groups with different degrees of pruritus. The correlation of MVP with VAS score was analyzed in AD patients. Results Serum MPV of the AD group was lower than that of the normal control group(P〈0. 05). MPV decreased in the order of the mild pruritus group, moderate pruritus group and severe pruritus group(P〈0. 05). MVP negatively correlated with VAS score in AD patients(P〈0. 05). Conclusion MPV decreases in the AD patients. MPV,as an inflammatory indicator for AD,may be associated with the occurrence of AD and the degree of pruritus.
