Better use of scarce water resources in arid and semi-arid areas has become an important way to alleviate water shortage. In the research,a novel processing method was proposed to solve water storage prone to leakage problem. The natural red clay was designed as main material, mixed with sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose( CMC) to prepare clay seepage prevention materials. The structure of the material was analyzed and characterized by SEM,FT-IR,Particle size distribution tester and XRD,and the impermeability of the material was also studied. The experiment results showed that addition of CMC to the red clay material has a great improvement in the anti-leakage. When the mass ratio of CMC to clay is 1. 20%,the effect of anti-seepage is the best. This material can be degraded, without secondary pollution and environment-friendly. The material possesses great practical application value due to the raw materials are cheap and easy to obtain.
