Objective To compare the effect between minimally invasive and traditional surgery in the treatment of varicose veins of the lower extremities. Methods A total of 189 patients with varicose veins of the lower extremities treated in Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital from March 2009 to March 2016 were selected as study subjects and they were divided into two groups according to different operation methods. There were 85 cases in minimally invasive surgical treatment group (minimally invasive group) and 104 cases in traditional surgery treatment (traditional group). Operation time, the amount of bleeding during operation, postoperative hospitalization time, the hospitalization cost and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results All of the 189 cases were operated successfully. The operation time and postoperative hospitalization time of the minimally invasive group were shorter than those of the traditional group, and the amount of bleeding during operation was less than that of the traditional group (P 〈 0.05). There was no significant difference in the hospitalization cost and postoperative incidence of complications between the two groups (P 〉 0.05). Conclusion Minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of varicose veins of the lower extremities can shorten operation and hospitalization time, and the surgical trauma is little and the security is high.
