摘 要:1938年8月24日发生的"桂林"号事件,是抗战时期日本军机袭击民航客机的恶性事件,引起了国际社会的高度关注。由于中国航空公司中美合营的性质,加之上海日本驻军当局发表不当言论以及英国报纸的曲解,该事件引发了美英两国的一致对日交涉。在激烈的外交博弈之中,美英两国一再对日妥协,日本最终以一个象征性的口头保证了结了这起外交官司。"桂林"号事件在一定程度上反映了美英与日本在远东地区的力量对比,揭示了这一时期美英两国远东政策的多重面相,同时也体现了国民政府战时外交的无助与无奈。Occurred on August 24, 1938, the Kweilin Incident was a vicious event of the civilian airliner attacked by Japanese aircraft during the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, which attracted great concern from the international community. Due to the fact that the China National Aviation Corporation was operated as a Sino-US joint venture, the Japanese military authority stationed in Shanghai made inappropriate remarks and the misinterpretation of the UK newspapers, this incident caused consistent presentions lodged by UK and U. S. During the fierce diplomatic game,UK and U. S. repeatedly made compromises with Japan. Japan finally settled this diplomatic row by making a symbolic verbal promise. The Kweilin Incident to some extent reflected the balance of power of UK, U. S. and Japan in the Far East, which revealed the multiplicity of Far East policies of UK and U. S. during this period and reflected the helplessness and frustration of the Nationalist Government's war-time diplomacy.
