Pulse diagnosis is an important part of the four diagnoses of traditional Chinese medicine. Its formation mechanism is very complex. How to express the pulse formation objectively and normatively is an urgent problem to be solved. Biohydrodynamics is a multi-disciplinary synthesis and crossover, which can objectively reflect the parameters of the human circulatory system. From this point of view, the formation mechanism of the radial artery in the circulatory system is a suitable method and approach for the objective study of pulse diagnosis. This paper summarizes the understanding of pulse mechanism in ancient and modern medicine from a multi-disciplinary perspective. It is the first time to systematically explain and analyze the mechanism of pulse formation from the perspective of biomechanics. The pulse wave, blood flow, vascular wall motion and boundary conditions are taken as the outline to interpret the mechanism of pulse formation, which provides new ideas and methods for the objectification of pulse diagnosis in traditional Chinese medicine.
