摘　　要：基于美国教育理事会2017年发布的全美1 546名大学校长的调查数据,研究归纳出美国大学校长群体的五大特征:校长群体构成更趋包容和多元,女性和少数族裔校长比例不断增加;校长大都具有博士学位且以人文社科背景的学术精英为主;校长晋升路径具有开放性和流动性;校长遴选注重发挥市场机制和社会力量作用;校长高度重视大学经费筹措和管理。我国大学校长职业发展应着重提升大学校长群体中女性和少数民族的比例,增加以教育学科为主的人文社科背景的校长比例,吸纳社会精英参与高等教育管理,构建多元主体参与的校长遴选机制,推动大学校长积极拓展经费来源渠道。Based on the survey data of 1 546 university presidents published by the ACE in 2017,the study summarizes five characteristics of the university presidents in the United States as following.The university presidents are more inclusive and diverse,and the proportion of women and minority presidents is increasing.The presidents mostly have doctoral degrees and are mainly academic elites with humanities and social sciences background.The presidents＇source is quite open.Flows inside and outside the system have become the normal.The market mechanism and social power have played an important role in presidents＇selection.The president attaches great importance to the management and funding of colleges and universities.For the career development of university presidents in China,suggestions are given to increase the proportion of women and ethnic minorities in university presidents;to increase the proportion of presidents with the background of education or other disciplines in humanities and social sciences;to involve the participation of social elites in the management of universities;to construct a mechanism for president selection with multi-subject participation;to encourage presidents to expand the sources of university funding actively.
