摘　　要：A new concatenated coding system with multilevel inner codes and a long RS outer code ispresented in this paper. Its performance is analyzed by deriving the expressions for the owrall effec-tive information rate, decoded bit error rate at the output of the outer decoder and the asymptotic cod-ing gain for high E_0/N_0 of this concatmated coding sysiem. Spectfic schemes are proposed and theirperforrnances are evaluated. The results of study show that the concatenated multilevel coding systemcan provide sygnificant coding gain over its uncoded refarence system. It shrws better perforniancethan that of the conventional contatenoted coding or multilevel coding. and is particularly suitable forthe error control in the dara communication systems with very noisy channels where high reliability isrequired.A new concatenated coding system with multilevel inner codes and a long RS outer code ispresented in this paper.
