PE Sector Faces Difficulties

摘　　要：China’s polyethylene (PE) capacity was7.595 million t/a in 2008, an increase of around6% over 2007, and output reached 6.895 milliontons, an increase of 0.49%. Due to theimpact of various factors such as increasedproduction costs, RMB appreciation and thefinancial crisis, many PE downstream processingenterprises had to suspend productionand the demand for PE was reducedslightly. Without considering the inventoryand outstanding orders carried over from theprevious year, the apparent consumption ofPE was 11.325 million tons in 2008. Accordingto statistics from CNCIC, the major factorfor reduced consumption in 2008 was theapparent reduction of consumption from Augustto November in 2008 compared with thesame period of 2007.
