This article touches one of the most controversial topics about whether the United States has shifted the focus of its global strategy to the East. The authors of the article say not yet. But they also acknowledge that Asia's position is increasingly becoming a focus of attention in U.S. global strategy and East Asia in particular. There are evidences for proving this assertion:① The United States is maintaining and strengthening its military presence in the AsiaPacific region.②It is forging its military alliances there, trying to create a system of collective security directed by the United States. ③It is frequently conducting military exercises in order to raise the manoeuvre capability of the American forces for intervening in regional crises. Although the U.S. global strategy appears to pay equal attention to Europe and Asia, Europe remains the first priority in U.S. global strategy for the time being. Five reasons support the argument:① Europe's economic strength and U.S. practical economic interests in Europe are greater than that in Asia. ②The orientation Europe follows is the crux for the forming of world structure in the future and for the outcome of U.S.global strategy.③ The regional conflicts in Europe still have overall impacts on world security.④ The United States is close to Europe and very far from Asia while viewing from culture, values or historic background.⑤ Europe has a set of mechanisms for U.S.European cooperation with NATO as the most important pillar for U.S. global expansion.
