摘　　要：1840年7月中英第一次鸦片战争爆发，舟山成为英国进攻的第一个中国岛屿。英国随军医生爱德华.霍奇斯.克里用日记和画笔，详细记载了鸦片战争定海保卫战的场景及他在舟山的所见所闻，主要内容包括舟山群岛的港口、建筑、风俗、农业，以及英军两次攻占定海并陷入困境的情况。在克里看来，舟山是英军侵略中国的前沿阵地，硝烟里的舟山依然美丽。In July 1840, the first Sino-British Opium War broke out and Zhoushan became the firstChinese island attacked by the British army. Edward Hodges Cree, a British army surgeon, detailedrecords of Dinghai Battle with diaries and brushes and what he saw and hear in Zhoushan, includingmain ports, buildings, customs and agriculture in Zhoushan Islands, as well as the troubled situationof Dinghai occupied by the British twice. In Cree ’ s eyes, Zhoushan was China, s forefront of theBritish invasion but it was still beautiful even in the smoke of gunpowder.
