Objective To explore the relationship between chronic diseases and the occurrence of fall. Methods Using multistage random sampling,we selected3078persons ages18years and older in Kaifu district,Changsha to collect information of chronic illnesses and falls based on a face-to-face interview questionnaire. Results The incidence of falls was2.76%in the prior year among3078interviewees(males:1.95%;females:3.33%).The prevalence of chronic diseases was30.77%.Of them, the prevalence rates of hypertension and diabetes were19.69%and6.56%,respectively.After controlling sex, age, and marriage status,it was found that residents having one kind of chronic disease were at higher risk for falls than those having no chronic disease(OR=2.32,P<0.05).Conclusion The incidence of falls in Kaifu district,Changsha is high.Having chronic diseases raises the risk of falls in residents aged18years and older.Health department should consider the impact of having chronic disease in the implementation of fall prevention.
