It can not only improve the physical and durability properties of matrix but also can help saving energy and decreasing carbon dioxide emission greatly by lessening usage amount of cement that is replaced by pozzolanic materials partly while producing cement-based materials. In recent years, metakaolin(MK)is noticed and researched extensively as a pozzolanic material. The research which metakaolin influence the properties of cement-based materials have prominent progress. The research progess on the physical property that metakaolin influence cement-based materials were summarized. It included the research that impure calcined kaolin clay and pure metakaolin influence the early and later physical propeties of mortar and concrete, the research that the compound addition of MK and limestone powder(LF)influence the mechanical properties of cement-based materials and the research that MK influence the mechanical properties of ultra high performance concrete(UHPC)primarily. Finally, the research orientation on the metakaolin cement-based materials in the future was prospected.
