摘　　要：王育平教授的专著《都市空间与文化想象:德莱塞小说中女工形象的文化表征》着眼于德莱塞的三部小说《嘉莉妹妹》、《珍妮姑娘》和《美国悲剧》中的都市空间特质,借助霍尔的"文化表征"和新历史主义的"身份型塑"概念,挖掘出小说中潜藏的文化意蕴,诠释出美国世纪之交的经济模式、道德规范与社会理想变迁对都市空间的重塑及其对女工自我身份建构的影响,借以窥测西奥多·德莱塞对女性工作问题与美国社会主流文化所持的态度。该著作为国内外德莱塞小说研究开拓了一条崭新的路径。The book Urban Space and Culture Imagination:Representation of Working Girls in Theodore Dreiser’s Novels is written by Professor WANG Yuping and published in 2016.Focusing on the urban space in Theodore Dreiser’s three novels,namely,Sister Carrie,Jennie Gerhardt,and An American Tragedy,it explores the transition of American society in economic mode,moral creed,and social ideals,aiming to illustrate the impact of the transformation upon urban life and working girls’self-fashioning.It also aims to disclose and show Dreiser’s cultural stance toward the issue of working women as well as the mainstream culture of American society,which opens up a new perspective to interpret Dreiser’s works.
