摘　　要：美洲印第安人不同社会组织与个人的象形文字名称和标志方式稍有差异。部落的标志主要由图腾、部落特征和部落的独特发型和服装配饰作为象征符号表示;氏族和宗族的标志大都是他们的保护神,多使用动物或动物部位来表示;个人的名字相对比较复杂,他们真正的名字一般以自然物来命名,而后起的名字则与个人特征和个人行为有关。这对汉字起源的探讨或许有启发意义。The names and designations of hieroglyphic used by different social groups or individuals of American Indians are slightly different from one another.Tribal designations are mainly represented by totems,tribal characters,unique hairstyles and clothing accessories;the designations of clans or gens are mostly their tutelar gods,which are generally signifi ed by animals or parts of animals;while names of individuals are intricate,the original names of individuals are selected from the words of natural objects,and the names acquired in later life are connected with personal characteristics and actions.The study may have implications for the exploration of the origin of Chinese characters.
