从语用角度看《无穷的岁月》中尤金·奥尼尔的信仰探索

摘  要:美国戏剧之父尤金·奥尼尔于1933年创作了以宗教为主题的戏剧《无穷的岁月》,虽然公演并不成功,有关这部剧的评析寥寥无几,但作为奥尼尔信仰探索题材的收笔之作,该剧仍具有重要意义。文章从语用角度出发,采用言语行为理论、话轮转换理论以及合作原则的方法分析剧中人物对话,研究对话所表现的人物关系,并分析人物性格以及思想转变过程,以期进一步品味奥尼尔精湛的台词技艺,并结合创作背景以及作品本身的自传性,揭示奥尼尔本人的信仰探索过程。Eugene O’Neill,the father of American drama,wrote the religious-themed drama Days Without End in 1933.Although the performance was not successful and few comments were made on it,it is still of great significance as the closing work of O’Neill’s exploration of faith.From the perspective of pragmatics,in the paper the speech act theory,turn-taking and cooperative principle were used to analyze the dialogues between characters in the play,to study the relationship between the characters expressed in the dialogues,and to analyze the personality of the characters and the process of the transformation of ideas,in order to further appreciate O’Neill’s excellent lines skills,and to reveal O’Neill’s letters in combination with his creative background and the autobiographical nature of his works and to reveal the process of his faith exploration.
