摘　　要：E.L.多克托罗对宗教问题极其关注。他在小说《盗窃》《沃尔特·约翰·哈蒙》《上帝之城》中刻画了基督教神甫、宗教骗子、犹太拉比等一系列人物的形象;作品在对宗教教义与思想进行审视与评判的同时,也暴露了西方社会的信仰危机。多克托罗进而提出涤除世间罪恶、消弭人间苦难的最根本性方法在于"重塑上帝"。E.L.Doctorow paid a good deal of attention to religion.He portrayed the characters of Christian priest,religious swindler,Jewish rabbi,and in his novels like Heist,Walter John Harmon and City of God.While analyzing and commenting religious doctrines and ideas,these novels also exposed the belief crisis in the communities of the west.Doctorow claimed that reconstructing God is the fundamental method for eliminating crimes and miseries in the world.
