小说《大人物盖茨比》创作背景与人物特征分析

摘　　要：《大人物盖茨比》利用不同人物特征的塑造,将当时的社会矛盾以及社会发展中的问题进行了描述,并且以人物关系为纽带,传递了作者对二十世纪初美国社会的感悟。社会发展差距的拉大,上流社会的贪欲以及虚荣,小人物对"美国梦"的理解不当等,小说都为读者展现出了当时的美国发展状态以及人们的精神面貌。尤其是在文化多样性发展中,小说《大人物盖茨比》塑造了不同的精神世界,每个人物代表了当时不同的价值观,其中所激发的矛盾更是十分鲜明。小说在论述中将梦想的形成、践行以及破碎的过程描绘得淋漓尽致。最后盖茨比的枉死,象征着"美国梦"的正式破碎。The Great Gatsby describes the social contradictions,social development problems and directions at that time by using different characterization,and uses the relationship between characters as a link to convey the author’s description of the times.The widening gap of social development,the greed and vanity of the upper class and the inappropriate understanding of the American Dream by the small people all show the readers the state of American development and people’s spiritual outlook at that time.Especially in the development of cultural diversity,the novel The Great Gatsby creates different spiritual worlds.Every character represents different values at that time,and the contradictions aroused by it are even more distinct.The novel depicts the formation,implementation and fragmentation of dreams vividly.Finally,Gatsby’s death in vain symbolizes the formal breakdown of the American Dream.
