摘　　要：An analysis of the ground condition on Hawaii Island(Big Island)and relief of the southeastern flank indicates its instability and the danger of a large-scale landslide which could cause significant damages to the entire West Coast of the US.This article discusses the factors contributing to the occurrence of a landslide,as well as a method that makes it possible to significantly reduce the probability of it.This method makes it possible to control the lava flow by shaping the landscape of the island,or by directing the lava flow straight into the ocean.
