Leizhou Peninsula is located in the South of China. It has been the main navigation pass between China and foreign countries and a fulcrum area of the Maritime Silk Road at least since the Han Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasties, the central government set up coastal defense fortifications, such as barracks, water stockades, beaches and so on, or used them as commercial ports to trade with the outside world. Western countries often focused on this region when they came to China from the sea. Therefore, the Leizhou peninsula were often marked on the Chinese and foreign maps in Ming Dynasty. Based on the analysis of the ancient maps of Leizhou Peninsula, this paper lists the names of the relevant places in detail, and makes a case study to explore the national coastal defense and foreign trade of Leizhou Peninsula in Ming Dynasty, and sort out the history of communication between Leizhou Peninsula and the outside world.
