摘 要:本文基于对大学的使命,专业与学科的关系,库恩范式理论视角下英语专业和英语学科的关系的分析,提出我国高等学校英语专业人才的理念应当是:在培养学生基础知识和基本技能的过程中,强化其国际视野、思辨能力等支撑终身发展的能力。培养方向应该是:各学校不能采取"一刀切"的思路,要因时制宜、因校制宜,根据新时代社会对专业人才的新要求,高等学校的办学层次、发展定位、师资力量、科研水平、教学水平、生源情况等,依托本体学科及交叉学科,主要应该以通识教育为导向,促进通识教育和专业教育融合,走学科型、通专融合型、复合交叉型等多元化、差异化培养之路。The present paper aims to explore the philosophy and orientations of English major reform in the new era based on the reflection of university mission, the relationship of major and subject in the general sense and the relationship of major and subject from the perspective of Kuhn’s Paradigm theory. The research proposes that English teaching in Chinese higher education institutions attach greater weight to the cultivation of students’ ability such as international vision and critical thinking to sustain their lifelong growth and the ability to meet the demands of new era while focusing on the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills. To realize this purpose, English teaching should be exercised on the basis of its ontological subjects and/or cross subjects with general education and its integration with subjects as its orientation. Consequently, English major reform in China should not impose uniformality in all cases. Instead, the reform should be conducted in accordance with the university level, its development orientation, the status quo of teaching faculty, research capability, teaching proficiency, students’ English proficiency,students’ lifelong development. Each university is expected, based on its unique characteristics, to take any or some of the following options: subject-oriented education, integration of subject and general education, cross-subject education.
