Objective To survey and analyse the sleep status of family members of hospitalized children so as to identity the factors that affect their sleep quality. Methods Firstly, 203 family members of hospitalized children were chosen as the subjects of study. Next, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was utilized to document and analyse the sleep status of the subjects. Lastly, univariate analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were conducted to determine the related factors that induced sleep disorders in children’s family members. Results 159 family members (78.33%)were found to have suffered sleep disorders. As compared with those without sleep disorders, significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of the children’s age, being with or without siblings, being with or without intubation, having or not having unemployed family members, having or not having medical insurance, and family members’ sleep environment ( P <0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age 6 years old ( OR =42.631) and intubation ( OR =10.583) were risk factors bringing about sleep disorder in the family members of hospitalized children ( P <0.05). Medical insurance was found to be positive factor for easing sleep disorder ( OR =0.005)( P <0.05). Conclusions The children being at a younger age and being subjected to intubation treatment are factors that significantly cause sleep disorders in family members of hospitalized children and the hospitalized chidren being medically insured can help ease the family members’ sleep disorder.
