Liu Xiaobiao's annotation of A New Account of the Tales of the World has the phrase "Qing Jiao Zhong Ben". Researchers often misinterpret it as word error. In the late Qing Dynasty, Li Ciming and Tan Sitong advocated that Liu Yiqing had annotated his book by himself, but later scholars either ignored it or denounced its absurdity. In fact, Wang Zao's preface to Shishuo Narration in Southern Song Dynasty has left clues on Liu Yiqing's self-annotation. Liu Xiaobiao in A New Account of the Tales of the World was marked as a book in Xiaoliang Dynasty, but now his notes not only avoid Liu Yu's taboo of Emperor Wudi of Song Dynasty, but also avoid the taboo on Liu Yu's grandfather, which can be regarded as the internal evidence of Liu Yiqing's self-annotation. Annotations for self-written books were quite common during the Eastern Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. Liu Yiqing's self-annotation of A New Account of the Tales of the World was also influenced by its trend.
