A Tentative Theoretical Study of Neologism

摘　　要：Vocabulary, more than other aspects of language, is inextricably connected with our society, because word is central to both the system and the use of language. Being the fundamental unit of meaning in English, words are also what ordinary users think of as a language, for they are accessible and reflect more fully the whole culture and respond more quickly to changes in society than do other aspects of language. Word is the most active part of language and new words are a part of any growing, healthy society. Neologism first is a language phenomenon, which shows productivity of language itself. Hence, many scholars have explained neologisms in terms of word-formation.
