Objective To establish a method for detection of TREC and to analyze the relationship between the levels of TREC in peripheral blood and the progression of HIV infection. Methods We established real-time PCR method to detect TREC levels in peripheral blood of untreated patients and patients with successful or failed immune reconstitution after treatment and compared the differences of TREC between different patients. Results In untreated patients with the increased CD4^+,TREC level was significantly increasing. The level of TREC was significantly higher in the successful immune reconstitution patients than that in the patients of immune reconstitution failure. Conclusion The level of TREC cells in peripheral blood increases significantly with the increase of CD4^+cell level in untreated patients. The level of TREC in peripheral blood of successful immune reconstruction patients is significantly higher than that of patients with failed immune reconstruction.
