摘 要:1"未来地球"计划与世界气候研究计划工业革命以来,自然和社会环境正在发生快速而剧烈的变化:全球温度不断升高、珊瑚礁和热带雨林大面积消亡、发展中国家和地区环境质量恶化、社会发展的不均衡和不平等日益加剧.如何向可持续发展转型是当今人类社会共同面临的一个巨大而复杂的挑战性问题.为应对上述挑战,加强着眼于全球变化的科学研究至关重要.To confront the rapid climatic and environmental changes since the Industrial Revolution and to promote the sustainable development of human society, the international science community launched a new research programme called "Future Earth" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. The programme integrates the following existing international programmes from the realms of natural science, social science, the humanities and engineering: the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme(IGBP), the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change(IHDP), and DIVERSITAS(biodiversity-science programme). The World Climate Research Programme(WCRP), which has been guiding climate-change research globally in the recent three decades, is one of the most important cooperative partners with the Future Earth. The WCRP Joint Scientific Committee has developed seven Grand Challenges identifying the critical climate-change issues for human society that should be high-priorities for the research community in the coming decades. The seven Grand Challenges are:"Melting Ice and Global Consequences","Clouds, Circulation and Climate Sensitivity","Carbon Feedbacks in the Climate System","Weather and Climate Extremes","Water for the Food Baskets of the World","Regional Sea-Level Change and Coastal Impacts", and "Near-term Climate Prediction". Consistent with the aims of Future Earth, the Grand Challenges call for transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation to produce "actionable information" for decision makers. Addressing these scientific frontier issues brings the best minds to the table, to overcome barriers to progress in climate science and support actions to mitigate climate change. After concisely introducing the Grand Challenges of WCRP, we shed light on feasibility of transdisciplinary cooperation by taking global warming and carbon reduction targets as an example.
