To improve the poor toughness of poylactic(PLA),organosilicon modified thermoplastic polyurethane(TPSiU)was used to prepare PLA/TPSiU blends by melt blending. The microstructure and thermal properties, mechanical properties of PLA/TPSiU blends with different contents of TPSiU were studied. The results showed that PLA transformed from brittle material to ductile material with the addition of TPSiU.The tensile strength, elastic modulus and impact strength of the blends increased firstly then decreased with the increase of TPSiU content. When the mass fraction of TPSiU was 20%,the elongation at break of PLA/TPSiU blends increased to 8 times of pure PLA.The two phases in PLA/TPSiU blends presented the sea-island structure, and the compatibility was poor. With the increase of TPSiU content, the size of island phase increased gradually. In addition, the thermal properties of the PLA were slightly affected by the addition of TPSiU.When the mass fraction of TPSiU was 10%,the heat resistance of the blend was comparable to that of pure PLA.
