The current international order is undergoing a period of dramatic changes. After studying the Cold War,the study of Japanese security strategy in American academic circle is of great significance in the theoretical and practical aspects of international relations. On the basis of reviewing relevant literature of the American academic circle after the Cold War,the evolution of Japan's security strategy in the 30 years after the Cold War can be roughly divided into three stages:the period of drifting(1989-1999),the period of forming the consensus(1999-2009)and the period of(2009 to present). The studies of American academic circle in those three periods have different focuses, however, they has not gone beyond the three mainstream academic schools of Western international relations or the extension of the three core propositions, only differing in terms of different stages as the international relations practice process responds to actual needs.Japan's security strategy owns three distinct characteristics, which refers to plasticity, comprehensiveness and realism. The current improvement of Sino-Japanese relations comes more from the internal strategic development needs of both sides, rather than just the pressure from the U.S.Japan's strategic cultural thinking has changed to a certain extent, and the motivations as well as the operational space for both U.S.and Japan to seek common strategic interests are increasing.
