American Indian writer Gerald Vizenor always insists on his native traditions and culture. Through his writings, he tries to deconstruct the wrong and misleading "Indian" identity, which was invented by the early white colonists and appropriated by the dominant culture. In order to break down the wrong impression and prejudices about Indian people, also to help the Indian people to reconstruct its native identity or identities, he proposes the original idea of "postindian". In his rich and varied literary and cultural practices, he always focuses on the description of the real physical and spiritual situations of Native American people. With his amazingly different genres and interrelated characteristics, he has practically constructed a marvelous "postindian" literary world, which contains many new ideas and literary skills that are not only important to the whole American Indian literary treasury, but also helpful for us in solving certain problems related to history, nation, identity, and politics.
