摘　　要：印第安人的历史、神话和传说是福克纳小说创作的重要素材之一,他的短篇小说《红叶》描述了一个关于约克纳帕塔法印第安人的故事。福克纳采用明与暗、言与默、动与静等一系列视觉、听觉和动觉意象将印第安人形象和黑人形象进行了对比,暗示了印第安文化的堕落是由白人的侵略性和印第安人自身的被动性等多种因素造成的。Faulkner regards Indian history, myth, and lore as valuable material in his writer’s workshop. His short story “Red Leaves” is about the Yoknapatawpha Indians. With a series of visual, auditory and kinesthetic images such as light and darkness, sound and silence, and motion and stasis, Faulkner makes contrasts between the Indians and the blacks. He suggests that the degeneration of the Indian culture results from a combination of factors: the aggressiveness of the whites and the passivity of the Indians.
