摘　　要：福克纳一直是国内外美国文学研究中的热门话题,如果从作者1919年开始发表作品算起,评论界对这位来自美国南方腹地作家的关注已经持续了整整一个世纪。正确梳理福克纳研究的历史遗产十分必要,却也是非常艰难的。美国佛罗里达大西洋大学哈古德的新作《追随福克纳》以简洁生动的语言对福克纳学术史上涌现出的百余部重要著作进行了切中肯繁的总结与评价,并就未来的发展走向做了切实的预判。该作有助于国内外学者较好地把握福克纳研究的历史与现状,对年轻学者较快切入研究的学术脉络也很有帮助。William Faulkner remains popular in scholarship both at home and abroad, and the field has been active for a whole century since 1919 when the author from the Deep South began to attract serious attention. The one-century time span of criticism makes it necessary but difficult to keep track;however, Taylor Hagood, a young scholar from Florida Atlantic University, succeeds in his attempt with his newly-published Following Faulkner, a book designed to recapitulate, in a concise way, the main ideas of about 100 monographs and to offer a brief critique over each. Another job Hagood does is to suggest the possible tendencies in the future. This book is valuable as a tool for scholars both new and experienced to have a good command of the historical development and of the present condition of Faulkner criticism. It is particularly helpful to orientate young scholars onto a right track.
