大学英语教材学术词汇覆盖率研究——以《新编大学英语综合教程》为例  

A Study on AWL Coverage of College English Textbooks: Taking New College English as an Example

摘　　要：基于Coxhead研发的学术词汇表(Academic Word List/AWL),文章分析了《新编大学英语综合教程》(第3版)课文的AWL覆盖率,以期验证此套教材语言学术性。研究发现:此套教材介于通用英语与学术英语之间,更倾向于通用英语;一至四册之间AWL覆盖率遵循了循序渐进的趋势;课文之间AWL覆盖率差异较大,但整体呈螺旋上升的趋势;课文AWL覆盖率与语言难度有很强的相关性。研究成果对大学英语教材选用和修订有较高的参考价值。Based on the Academic Word List (AWL) developed by Coxhead, this paper calculates the AWL coverage of the texts in New College English an Integrated Course (3rd Ed.) to see whether the textbooks are appropriate for the teaching of English for General Purposes (EGP) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The results point to the following findings:(1)In terms of AWL coverage, this textbook series is between EGP and EAP, but closer to EGP than EAP. This seems to suggest that this textbook series is more appropriate for the teaching of EGP than EAP.(2)The AWL coverage in this series advances gradually from Book 1 to Book 4 in due order.(3)The AWL coverage among texts varies significantly, but has an ascending tendency.(4)The overall AWL coverage of the texts in the four books has a significant correlation with Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. This study is helpful for the selection and revision of college English textbooks.
