摘　　要：由西奥多·德莱赛先生创作的《嘉莉妹妹》,作为二十世纪自然主义文学理论代表作之一,巧妙地运用大量细节描写来展示当时的社会现状。同时,西奥多·德莱赛细致入微的观察角度也在该作品中得到充分体现。正因为如此,该小说才能吸引一代又一代众多读者,并给他们留下深刻的印象。本文以自然主义的三个特征:客观细致的描述、人类的内在欲望以及环境的不可抗拒力为切入点,探讨西奥多·德莱赛在《嘉莉妹妹》这部作品中所流露出的自然主义思想。Sister Carrie,as a representative work of naturalism in the 20th century,is filled with a large number of vivid detailsrevealing social realities at that time.Meanwhile,Theodore Dreiser’s special view of observation is also conveyed completely in this novel.For such reasons,this novel has attracted readers and impressed upon them one generation after another.This paper tries to discuss Theodore Dreiser’s naturalistic ideas from three characteristics:objective detailed descriptions;human beings’internal desires and environment’s uncontrollable forces.
