Fundamentally,the crisis is the result of great mistakes made by the Mexican government in implementing development strategies and macroeconomic policies. It has dealt heavy blows not only to Mexico itself, but also to the world econo- my. The scenario where this crisis takes place is very different from the one where the debt crisis broke out in the early 80s.Its repercussions and outcomes as well as people's attention to and ways of looking at it are also different from those of the debt crisis.Despite the hardships caused by the present crisis, however, Mexico still enjoys favorable economic environment as a whole. NAFTA has created some unpredicted issues to Mexico, but it still brings more good things than bad things to the nation’s economy.So long as it can adopt proper policies in the future and get strong international assistance. Mexico will be able to get over the current difficult period and push its economy one step further.
