The Reexamination of the Tragedy of Tess Under the Hegemony of Bourgeoisie Ideology

摘　　要：This paper reexamined the tragedy of Tess,the heroine of Tess of D’urbevilles from the perspective of Marxism by analyzing the components of Victorian superstructure,namely,law,double-standard morality and biased religion,which governed strictly by Victorian ideology.The tragic fate of Tess is an inevitability under the destructive bourgeois ideology,and it is the fate of weak proletariat under the hegemony of bourgeoisie ideology.And this is different from the fatalism attribution of Tess’tragic fate and the limitation of regarding Tess’tragedy as the tragedy of personal destiny.This paper reexamined the tragedy of Tess, the heroine of Tess of D’urbevilles from the perspective of Marxism by analyz-ing the components of Victorian superstructure, namely, law, double-standard morality and biased religion, which governed strictlyby Victorian ideology.
