On the basis of comprehensive analyses of drilling holes, well logging and geophysics, the characteristics of Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation reservoir and gas reservoir in the Malubei area of Sichuan Basin are studied. It is proposed that the Xujiahe Formation in the study area developed a new type of reservoir with composite matrix porosity, which is composed of anastomosed fractures resulted from superposition of fault and fractures and associated with faults and folds. When the fault-fracture body is filled with gas,the fault-fracture gas reservoir is formed, which is characterized by dual hydrocarbon sources, stereoscopic migration of gas, multiple accumulation and fault-fracture storage.Investigation of typical high-yield wells reveals that the high yield and enrichment of the fault-fracture gas reservoirs are controlled by three factors.Firstly, the hydrocarbon supply of both marine and continental quality source materials is the foundation for the formation of fault-fracture gas reservoir.Secondly, the faults and fractures cutting through the conducting system provide effective migration path for the gas. Finally, the anastomosed fractures occurred in the reservoir permeable body provides large scale storage space for oil and gas.
