从《苔丝》看哈代对维多利亚时代贞操观的批判与重构

摘　　要：在《苔丝》中,哈代通过对女主人公苔丝悲苦命运的生动描述,谴责和批判了维多利亚时代戕害女性的传统贞操观,提出了颇具现代色彩的贞操观。这一贞操观既有对传统贞操观合理成分的继承,又有迥异于传统贞操观的新内涵,具体涵盖两个方面的内容:一是心灵纯洁是贞操的主要标志,二是男女双方都有平等的坚守贞操的道德义务。With a vivid description of the miserable fate of Tess,the heroine in Tess of the d'Urbervilles,Thomas Hardy severely criticized the Victorian view on chastity which caused harm to women and put forward his view on chastity with modern characteristics.With the rational elements of the traditional view on chastity,Hardy's view on chastity features two innovations,namely,purity of heart and an equal obligation of both men and women to keep chastity.
