摘　　要：本文通过深度访谈,对美国著名传播史学家理查德·约翰的学术思想进行梳理与分析,并在此基础上探讨历史学方法与传播研究相结合的具体方式。通过剖析约翰的传播史研究经历及其对前沿技术问题的关注,本文认为从历史的视角出发探寻社会传播领域种种当下问题的答案,以消除边界的心态搭建跨学科传播研究的框架,是新闻传播学实现与巩固自身合法性的重要路径。This article uses the method of in-depth interviews to comb through and analyze thoughts of Richard John, a renown American communication historian, and discuss about ways to incorporate historical approaches in communication research. Through John’s rich research experiences and his close focus on cutting-edge communication technologies, this article proposes that "returning to history" plays a key role in resolving various problems in today’s society, and efforts to establish frameworks that bridge different paradigms is a very important way to consolidate the legitimacy of the discipline of communication.
