摘　　要：美国著名作家菲利普·罗斯2000年出版的小说《人性的污秽》为其《美国三部曲》的最后一部,同时也是最精致缜密、最富雄心的一部。小说通过对一名极端个人主义者生存空间构建过程的叙述表明了在20世纪末作为美国文化核心的个人主义已经逐渐被身份政治所取代,而个人追求美好生活的努力与宏观政治文化环境变迁之间存在着巨大张力。无论个人主义者多么强大,他们苦心经营的个人世界终将不可避免地受到挤压,甚至被摧毁。因此,作品除了具备作为一部杰出后现代小说的文学造诣之外,其对当代美国政治文化的批评和反思更是它的价值所在。重读这部作品尤其显得意义深刻,有助于我们理解在特朗普入主白宫后美国社会分裂加剧的原因。Published in 2000, The Human Stain,the last of the American author Philip Roth’s American Trilogy, is considered to be the most carefully worked out and most ambitious masterpiece. The paper contends that the most important the me of the novel is the struggle between an extreme individual is tand identity politics that started to gain momentum at the end of the 20’scentury.It focuses on the great tension between the individual’s struggle for a better state of existence and macro political and cultural environments,with the former inevitably squeezed and even crushed no matter how strong the protagonist is. Thus,apart from its artistic attainment as an outstanding postmodernist novel,the value of the novel lies in its criticism and retrospection of contemporary American politics and culture. There reading of it maybe especially meaningful in help us understand the great division that has split American society after Donald Trump became President.
