Putting shells into fishpond was a method used in the aquaculture.YU Jiayan, with the thinking of classification according to manifestation, applied this method to the treatment of genuine yang floating upward syndrome. This method indicates that for treating the syndrome of genuine yang floating upward caused by yin deficiency, drugs for nourishing yin and subduing yang should be used together. Because the pathogenesis of both genuine yang floating upward syndrome and endogenous deficient wind syndrome are related to deficiency of yin of the liver and the kidney, the later warm disease school advocated the putting shells into fishpond method can be applied to the treatment of endogenous deficient wind syndrome. By studying the relevant medical records of Yuyicao(《寓意草》) and other traditional Chinese medicine books, this paper expounds the theoretical basis of the putting shells into fishpond method is regulating yin and yang. It is concluded that Longgu(fossil fragments),Muli(concha ostreae),Biejia(turtle shell) and Guiban(tortoise plastron) are the commonly used drugs and a series of prescriptions created by WU Jutong for restoring pulse are the commonly used prescriptions.
