摘　　要：五四运动前后,英国驻华外交情报系统已经开始监视布尔什维克在华活动,重点监视无政府主义者与工人运动背后有无俄国革命者的支持、布尔什维克主义的传播是否会发展成革命运动。英国此时所收集的信息,其来源与可靠性均有一定问题,经常混淆无政府主义者与布尔什维克的区别,内部认识亦不一致。整体上,当时英国将中国蓬勃兴起的工人运动视为传统中国政治运动的延续,不认为中国具备传播马克思主义的土壤。Before and after the May 4th Movement,Britain’s diplomatic intelligence system tracked Bolshevik activities in China,with a focus on whether there was support by the Russian revolutionaries behind the anarchists and the labor movement,and whether the spread of Bolshevism would develop into a revolutionary movement.The information collected by Britain,of which the source and reliability had some problems,usually confounded the distinction between the anarchists and the Bolsheviks,and the British internal understanding was inconsistent.On the whole,Britain regarded the flourishing labor movement in China as a continuation of traditional Chinese political movement,not realizing that the roots of Marxism could develop in Chinese soil.
